Grace Chang, daughter of one of China’s most beloved entertainers, brings an unlikely creature to the forefront of a story about identity and friendship—a dragon.

Chang tells the story of a young dragon on a journey to find out just what kind of creature he is. When he hatches from his egg, Jin Jin meets all kinds of animals, all that are similar to him, but none are exactly the same as him either. Determined to find out what he is, Jin Jin sets out on a journey to find Old Turtle and Crane, whose mysterious wisdom will help him identify what kind of creature he is. Along the way he makes some wonderful friends and discovers things about himself he couldn’t have ever imagined. In the end, it is revealed that Jin Jin is a water-breathing dragon!

Grace Chang collaborated with her brother, Chong Chang, an artist living in China, to create JIN JIN THE DRAGON. Chong Chang was able to breathe life into his sister’s words with his exquisite watercolor illustrations. Through his artwork, Grace Chang’s goal of creating a children’s book that presents fundamental lessons for children of all ages about taking pride in being just who you are is perfectly executed.
