The publication of WISDOM, conceived and created by renowned photographer and director Andrew Zuckerman, marks a major publishing event. Inspired by the idea that one of the greatest gifts one generation can give to another is the wisdom it has gained from experience, the Wisdom project, produced in cooperation with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, seeks to create a record of a group of people over the age of 65 who have all made their mark on the world.

Nelson Mandela, Buzz Aldrin, Madeleine Albright, Clint Eastwood, Nadine Gordimer, Henry Kissinger, Billie Jean King, Frank Gehry, Judi Dench, Ted Kennedy, Jane Goodall, Robert Redford, and Andrew Wyeth are just a few of the 50 contributors who agreed to be photographed and interviewed exclusively for the book. All of the subjects were photographed in the same manner—against a white space and removed from their context, which not only democratizes them, but also presents their voices, their written words, and their physical presence in the cleanest and clearest way.

The result is a visually stunning volume that includes 100 full-color photographs of the highest quality; is packaged with a 60-minute documentary DVD featuring filmed interviews of the contributors; and represents a new kind of transparent portraiture that reveals the essence of the person. At its heart, WISDOM spotlights what it means to be human at the onset of the 21st century.
